Dental implant placement process

Dental implant placement process

Implantation of dental implants is a surgical intervention carried out by a team of implantologist and assistant. Local anesthesia is used, the same used for repairing or extracting teeth, which makes the whole intervention painless. The intervention begins with preparation, anesthesia, implantation and giving post-operative instructions. Usually, the duration for one implant is about 40 minutes. You will receive detailed information about the process during the first informational visits.

The intervention itself is painless, you only feel a touch, but no pain. After implant placement, patients rarely feel pain. The feeling after the end of the anesthesia is usually strange, as if something has been done, but it is more discomfort than pain. Over 90% of our patients report a pain level of 2-3 on a scale of 10 in follow-up surveys the next day. Although we recommend analgesics if there is pain after anesthesia wears off, many patients do not feel the need to use them.

After the intervention, patients receive written and oral care instructions. It is important to rest and keep ice on the operated side at intervals of 5 minutes. Slight swelling the next day is expected, especially with major interventions. It is a natural reaction of the body and disappears in a few days. Reactive swelling should not be confused with infectious swelling, which is large and painful. Correctly following the instructions prevents complications.

It is important not to neglect postoperative instructions, especially for physically active people. Failure to comply may cause minor or moderate complications such as swelling or prolonged bleeding. Therefore, always follow your doctor’s recommendations to ensure a successful and painless recovery after implant placement.
