What are periodontal cases and why do they occur?

Periodontal cases are complications resulting from periodontal disease (chronic and progressive), caused by bacteria called periopathogens. They only persist in people with specific conditions in the mouth, and are very harmful to the bone and gingiva around the teeth. In case of improper oral hygiene or lack of professional teeth cleaning, they cause inflammation and loss of bone and gingiva. This degree of inflammation can be reached in a few months, without proper oral hygiene. In people with untreated periodontal disease, massive tooth loss and poor condition of the remaining teeth can occur.

How we deal with periodontal cases at VEGA

At the beginning, we do a detailed periodontal examination and diagnose all parameters of the disease. Then we determine the correct form and stage and determine a therapy protocol. After the diagnosis, initial therapy is done, and then therapy by region, either non-surgical or surgical, according to the condition. Then follows a new evaluation and planning of a definitive reconstruction of the tooth.

The overall therapy consists of two steps:

  1. Treatment of periodontal disease

  2. Denture reconstruction

These two steps are necessary and are performed in this order. The ultimate long-term outcome in complex, predominantly periodontal cases depends on both steps. Removal of the bacterial biofilm and training to keep it under control will not produce long-term results if the remaining teeth are not placed in a stable prosthetic relationship that will keep them stable from chewing forces. These patients will have to do professional teeth cleaning more often, but with that they have a good chance for a quality life with their natural teeth.

At VEGA, our doctors follow all the necessary steps to ensure successful therapy and long-term stability of your teeth, ensuring quality of life and healthy oral hygiene.
