What are veneers?

Veneers are aesthetic extensions of the front teeth, usually on their front, most visible side. The term facet refers to the shape, as the facet is a thin shell that shapes the visible front surface of the tooth. This term refers more to the form than to the material from which the aesthetic superstructure is made. In terms of material, there are three main types: porcelain, acrylate and nano-composite veneers.

Porcelain veneers are made from high-quality porcelain that provides excellent aesthetics and durability. They offer a natural appearance and are resistant to discoloration and wear, making them a long-term solution to aesthetic problems of the front teeth.

Acrylate veneers are intended for the correction of aesthetic problems of the front teeth. However, their physical characteristics, such as porosity, transparency and luster, do not meet long-term aesthetic criteria. Therefore, they are recommended as a temporary solution until porcelain can be installed.

Nano-composite veneers are an excellent aesthetic and cost-effective solution for many aesthetic problems of the front teeth. This can be a long-term or medium-term solution, thanks to the possibility of making them in layers that provide color, transparency, shine and shape. They are often chosen by patients when porcelain veneers are delayed.

The advancement of nano-composite materials allows the fabrication of model veneers, similar to porcelain veneers. They are cemented with composite cements, which offer a whole range of colors. The fabrication can be done directly on the teeth in one visit or indirectly in two visits: the first for analysis, preparation and taking impressions and the second for cementing the veneers made in the laboratory.
